Majestic

Oh LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Psalm 8:1

If you’ve ever driven Interstate 90 from west to east across the state of New York, you’ll notice not too far from Buffalo that the flat landscape gives way to rolling hills. A few hours later, those rolling hills turn into the peaks of that Adirondack mountains. Just beyond those ridges, I’m welcomed home by the Green Mountains of Vermont.

I can’t even begin to write what that view does to me on the inside, but as I got to experience that same view last month, there was some serious giddiness happening!

More than giddiness it resulted in worship, because those mountains pointed me to the majesty of God! The mountains boast of God’s power and might! They anchor His steadfastness!

When I look at Your heavens, the works of Your fingers, the moon and stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of Him, and the son of man that You care for Him?

Psalm 8:3-4

The Psalmist looked at creation and praised God! Because whether that part of creation is the stars, the ocean, the mountains, or even a deer standing in a field, creation points us to the hand of God.

The beautiful challenge in Psalm 8 is to grasp that God made all of creation and set it in place. Creation is huge! It’s massive! And yet, He cares for me. He cares for you and each human as an individual.

Seriously if you just pause and think about your favorite nature scene. Think about how that scene connects you with the nature of God. Then wrestle with the reality that He loves and cares for you in a way that is higher than the highest mountain, deeper than any ocean, and for every breath that you take.

Oh LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8:9
